Students must return any overdue books and pay any outstanding fines in a timely manner. If the student does not clear their library account by renewing books, returning books, and paying fines, they are unable to borrow more until the library account is cleared.

Students who lose or damage beyond repair a library book must pay the cost of the book. Students may purchase a replacement copy to give to the library in lieu of payment.

Ebooks and Audio Books

Ebooks and audio books are available through the Sora app or website. Students can borrow up to 3 books at one time for 14 days. They can place a hold on books that are not currently available so that they will be notified when it becomes available.

The Sora collection contains picture books, children's books, young adult novels, fiction and non-fiction, books for teachers, and books for parents. Languages include English, Chinese, and Spanish.

Textbooks

Textbooks are loaned to students at the beginning of the year and throughout the year, as needed. Each textbook has a unique barcode number that allows us to track exactly which copy of the textbook was given to your child. At the end of the year the student is expected to return that copy in good condition. If a textbook is lost or damaged, the student is expected to pay for the book.

Course books are loaned for the duration of the school year. The due date for Y7-12 will be on June 4th. The due date for Y13 is May 25th.

Novels, short stories, and plays for English or Chinese classes are loaned for shorter periods and can be renewed once for a second loan period.

When is a textbook considered damaged? Textbooks suffer some wear and tear due to use. This is normal. Library staff mend minor damage to books when possible. If the book includes a CD, the CD must be returned in good condition.  If the spine of the book is broken beyond repair or if the book is water damaged, it must be paid for. Since water damage to a book can also lead to mildew, no water damaged books are kept in the textbook collection. All water damaged books must be discarded, therefore this is the most important kind of damage to prevent.

Textbook return: The library loans over 6000 textbooks each year. The library will begin communicating with students about textbook return in mid-May. Y10 and Y12 students can renew their textbooks online to keep them over the summer as these same books will be used in Y11 and Y13. All other students must return their textbooks and any library books they have borrowed in order to receive their yearbook at the end of the year. Yearbooks will be held until the student's library account is cleared. During the month of June, students will receive notices and reminders repeatedly to help motivate them to return their books in a timely fashion.
