Travel Anywhere with a Book

2020-2021 Year Long Reading Challenge

What? A challenge to see how many books you can read and recommend.

How? Choose books from the library shelves or ebooks or audio books. Choose fiction or nonfiction. Choose English or Chinese. Choose whatever interests you.

When? All through the 2020-2021 school year. Whenever you find yourself waiting for something or someone, pull out a book and read. When you are riding in a car/taxi/bus, pull out a book and read. When you finish your homework early, pull out a book and read. Read when you go to bed to help your brain relax. You will be amazed at how much time in the day there is for reading.

What Book? The choice is yours. If you need suggestions, we have prepared several paths you might take

  • Time Travel Past (historical fiction)
  • Time Travel Future (science fiction / dystopia)
  • Global Citizen (characters and settings around the world)
  • Just the facts, ma'am (nonfiction)
  • Swoonworthy (romance)
  • Murder Most Foul (mysteries)
  • Real People (biography, memoir, fiction about real people)
  • The Award Goes To... (award winning books)
  • The Chosen One Saves the World
  • Choose Your Own Adventure (select whatever books you like)

How to Share? Write a brief review or recommendation for each book you read and upload it to the library catalog. (click on the How to Recommend tab above for instructions) If you prefer, you can make an audio or video review or recommendation. Submit it to the librarian.

How many books? As many as you can. Remember to write or record a review. The final count will be based on the number of reviews entered or submitted.

Why? Because it is fun! Because we will have an end of year celebration of reading. Because there will be prizes and awards

Reading is voluntary. There will not be a required test or essay. This is mostly for fun and sharing.

Books are available in print from the library or as ebook or audio book via Sora.
